The collapse of Circle Holidays in 1990 threatened not only Club Las Calas but also three other Timeshare resorts in Lanzarote. These were:
- Club Calypso, with 60 apartments;
- Club La Cumbre, with 15 apartments;
- Club Maritima, with 25 apartments.
These Clubs too were at risk of closure and, like Club Las Calas, needed to take action to protect the interests of their Members.
Recognising that there were opportunities for mutual help, the four Clubs joined together to form the Diamond Group and agreed that certain resources could be shared between them, with such Group costs being apportioned according to the relative number of apartments. The Group was to be supervised by a Board of Directors, which initially comprised the Chairmen of the four Clubs, plus an additional Committee Member drawn from the Club Las Calas Committee, to reflect the greater contribution which Club Las Calas would make to Group funds. The four individual Clubs also delegated to the Directors of the Diamond Group the negotiation of the Management Contract with their chosen management company, at that time: TMSI
(subsequently RCIRM and now Resort Solutions Limited).
.
The Directors of the Diamond Group became the Board of Complex Management Services Limited, a UK-based, not-for-profit company, through which the four resorts are operated. This UK company in turn operates a wholly-owned subsidiary in Lanzarote – Complex Management Services s.l. – which manages the four resorts on a day-to-day basis.
In the early 1990’s, the mutual support between the four Clubs was undoubtedly a significant factor in their survival. Under the then Chairman of Directors, who was at that time the Chairman of Club La Cumbre, the four Clubs faced (and successfully overcame) a number of serious challenges, helped by advice and support from TMSI. The sharing of resources contributed to keeping down running costs, while the mutual exchange of ideas helped all four Clubs to raise their standards of service.
Although times have changed for all four Clubs and each of them has successfully completed its own refurbishment programme, Club Las Calas remains an integral part of the Diamond Group of Clubs, within which key resources are shared and whose Directors continue to provide advice and support.
