Lanzarote Holidays - Club Las Calas

The affairs of Club Las Calas are controlled by an elected Owners’ Committee, whose Chairman is chosen from within their number. Committee Members are elected for five year periods, although they may offer themselves for re-election at the end of that period, if they wish. Overall management of the Club is delegated, under the terms of a management contract, to Resort Solutions Limited, who are based at Market Harborough in Leicestershire, England.

Under the terms of the management contract, Resort Solutions not only manages Club Las Calas but also the other three resorts in the Diamond Group of Clubs, of which Club Las Calas is the largest member. The four Diamond Clubs are all located in Lanzarote and, between them, share specified Group resources and costs on an agreed basis.

The day-to-day business of running the resort is undertaken by the Resort Manager and her team, who receive direction and support from Resort Solutions. All Diamond Group staff in Lanzarote work for Complex Management Services s.l. The latter also employs a Group General Manager, again based in Lanzarote, who is responsible for the overall management of the Diamond Group resorts.

Complex Management Services s.l. is a Canary Islands subsidiary of Complex Management Services Limited. The latter is wholly owned by the Diamond Group and is a UK-based, not-for-profit company, which is the designated operating company for all four Diamond Group resorts. The Chairmen of the four Diamond Clubs are ex officio Directors of CMS Limited, together with one other nominated Committee member from within the Diamond Group.

In accordance with the terms of the Contract between the Diamond Group and Resort Solutions, a Service Level Agreement has been put in place and came into full operation on 1 January 2004. This SLA specifies the agreed standards and performance targets against which Resort Solutions and the Lanzarote-based staff manage the Diamond Group Clubs, the metrics and indicators used to measure performance and the reports rendered to both the Directors of the Diamond Group and the individual Committees, including that of Club Las Calas.

The Club Las Calas Committee meets at least five times every year and usually undertakes an annual resort inspection visit, each October. In between formal meetings, Committee members keep in regular contact by telephone, facsimile and e-mail, with the Chairman acting as the focal point for liaison with Resort Solutions and the Management Team in Lanzarote.

To report on performance, provide professional advice and contribute to Committee thinking, a nominated Resort Solutions Director attends all meetings of the Las Calas Committee, for which Resort Solutions also provides secretarial services. Often in attendance at Committee meetings are the Club’s Resort Manager and the General Manager of the Diamond Group, who can report first hand on the running of the resort and offer a Lanzarote perspective of the affairs of the Club.

This three-way partnership between the Owners’ Committee, Resort Solutions and the Resort Management team in Lanzarote is fundamental to the success of the Club. The closest possible liaison is maintained at all times to ensure that all parties remain fully informed.
