Holidays in Lanzarote - Club Las Calas

Arrecife Airport :

The Island ’s airport at Arrecife, which is built in a modern Lanzarotian style, is light and airy, with a range of cafes, retail outlets and service kiosks, including car hire. For most of the week, traffic levels are fairly light and, while the airport is very busy on Thursday (which is a change-over day for many resorts in Lanzarote), delays are usually acceptable. The airport is well served by local taxis and buses and the car park is adequate, although it can be somewhat busy on Thursdays.

Having arrived at Arrecife Airport, retrieved all of your luggage and passed through Customs and Immigration, there are a number of ways of getting to Club Las Calas.

By taxi:

This is undoubtedly the simplest way of getting to the resort and is relatively inexpensive. There is a taxi rank immediately outside the Arrivals Hall on the lower level of the airport and taxis are usually in plentiful supply, even on Thursdays. Almost all of the taxi drivers know where the resort is located.

The single journey costs 8-10 Euros (with average luggage) and takes around 15 minutes.

By bus:

It is possible to get between the airport and the resort by bus, however, as at August 2006 it is necessary to go via the bus interchange at Arrecife. For information on Lanzarote buses click here.

By hire car (or private car):

Since the new airport terminal building opened, the Policia Local and Guardia Civil have been increasingly strict about unauthorised parking on the airport site. All hire car operators must now park their vehicles in the appropriate spaces within the official airport car park and owners of private cars are strongly advised to do the same. If you are collecting a car on arrival, therefore, you may expect to find it in the official car park.

Ensure that, when you collect your car, you obtain the associated parking ticket. Payment for car parking should be made just before driving away. There is a small payment building, adjacent to the car park exit barriers, which contains two automatic machines that will accept Euro coins and notes, as well as credit cards. There is also a payment kiosk inside this building, which is manned during the day.

The payment building is just across the road from the Departures Hall, which is on the upper level of the airport terminal. To reach this level from the lower (Arrivals) level, there are stairs and a lift inside the airport terminal or, alternatively, there is a ramp across the road from Arrivals, which gives access directly to the car park. The ramp may be negotiated with luggage trolleys, push-chairs or wheelchairs.

Having paid for your parking, exit the car park through one of the automatic barriers.

Turn left into the airport one-way system and, initially, follow the signs for Arrecife (Ciudad), taking the appropriate exit at each of the two roundabouts through which you pass.

About 100 metres after the second roundabout, at the point where the slip road signposted to Arrecife (Ciudad) turns off to the right, proceed straight ahead under the dual carriageway, following the signs for Puerto del Carmen and Yaiza.

The access road on which you are now driving turns through 270° to the right, before emerging onto the Arrecife – Macher highway.

At this point, merge into the traffic and move promptly into the left hand land lane in preparation for making a left turn at the next junction (signposted Puerto del Carmen), which is approximately 200 metres ahead.

This turn takes you back under the other lane of the highway and emerges adjacent to a large warehouse, which may be seen on the right hand side. After half a further kilometre, the road passes between two petrol stations, which offer a convenient point to top up with fuel, if necessary.

A further half a kilometre brings you to the first turning for Puerto del Carmen. Do not take the slip road to the right. Remain on the main road, which climbs up and over the slip road, turning to the right as it does so.

Continue a further 4 kilometres along this road, by now running parallel to the coast, which may be glimpsed on your left hand side. After 2 kilometres, you will pass an intersection adjacent to “Rancho Texas”, which is a target golf and horse-riding centre and will be visible to the right of the main road. Again, ignore this second turning for Puerto del Carmen.

Continue straight ahead past Rancho Texas to the next intersection, which is just beyond the Hospital (Clinic), visible on the hill to the right of the road. At this intersection, avoid the first slip road (which is signposted to Tias).

Instead, take the second slip road, signposted to Puerto del Carmen.

The slip road turns through 270°, downhill to the right, before merging into the road from Tias to Puerto del Carmen. Turn right (signposted to Puerto del Carmen), join the traffic pass back under the main highway.

Continue 200 metres to a small roundabout, which is next to a kindergarten (visible to the right).

At the roundabout, proceed straight ahead into Calle de Juan Carlos 1 and follow the road for half a kilometre, as it bends to the left and down a slight incline.

Ignoring the first small turning on the left [Calle Plantón], turn left into Calle de Togio, the first significant turning, which is opposite the Euro Hotel Complex and immediately before the white and yellow-painted Netto Supermarket [Supermercado].

Drive ahead, going straight across the crossroads about 100 metres ahead [Calle de la Barqueta] and past the turning on the right 50 metres further on [Calle del Alcorce]. Continue to follow Calle de Togio for a further 200 metres, over the brow of a small hill to the little roundabout, which is just beyond.

At this point, do not take the small slip road to the right, which is just before the roundabout. Instead, at the roundabout itself, take the first exit to the right and drive down the slight incline.

This is Calle Garajonay and you are now passing the rear of the resort, which is visible to your right.

After 100 metres, turn right into Calle Guayadeque, which is the first turning on the right. Follow the street as it turns first through 90° to the right and then through 90° to the left.

Club Las Calas Reception will then be visible on your right, about 50 metres beyond the second bend.

Park safely in a suitable parking space (on either side of the street). Lock your vehicle and proceed to reception to check in. The Reception staff will advise on the best place to park for the rest of your stay.

The above route is shown on the location map, below:
